Health system targets

Health system targets provide clear expectations for health system performance and are intended to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders - as well as supporting people, families and communities to stay well.

Five health targets were announced by the Government in March 2024. Two of these (shorter stays in emergency departments and shorter wait times for first specialist appointments) are included in the All of Government targets

Aligned to these are five Mental Health and Addiction Targets announced by the Government in July 2024.
